x-ray NDT Technology helps die casting testing
Introduction: Casting is an important basic industry in the national industry. With the rapid development of science and technology, the casting industry is facing more and more difficulties. Increasing the efficiency of casting production, product quality, reducing energy consumption, and reducing waste have never been so urgent.
Due to the complicated casting process, the raw material control is not strict in the production process, the production process is not perfect, the mold structure is unreasonable, and the production operation is improper, which will cause various defects in the casting. Common defects include cracks, bubbles/pores, loose and inclusions. In order to ensure the quality of castings and save costs, it is necessary to detect defects in time in the early stages of the production process. X-ray nondestructive testing has become the preferred method for casting defect detection due to its low detection cost, high detection efficiency, wide application conditions, and clear and intuitive images.
During the casting process, due to the structure of the casting or the casting process, the solidification speed is different everywhere, and then the stress is generated. This stress cracks the casting in the middle and late stages of the solidification process of the casting, corresponding to the formation of hot cracks and cold cracks. The crack is in the form of a light line in the X-ray detection image.
Mainly due to the exhausting of the casting during the casting process; mold surface processing, coating, cleaning problems; improper casting process or improper operation can easily cause pores and bubbles on the surface and inside of the casting. The bubbles/pores on the surface of the workpiece can be found by sandblasting and visual inspection, and the bubbles/pores inside the workpiece can be found by X-ray fluoroscopy.
